    • 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette Nurburgring time supposedly 7:28:30

Is 7 minutes and 28.3 seconds the legitimate lap time around the Nurburgring for the new mid-engine C8 Chevrolet Corvette? We do not know. This is being reported by Musclecarsandfastrucks.com and who knows if it is clickbait or not.

GM has yet to confirm to time. There is no official lap video. There really is nothing to go on beyond the supposed credibility of the site reporting the time.

Assuming this time is true it is a disappointment as the C8 reportedly was targeting a sub 7-minute lap.

For context, the 991.2 GT3 RS does run a sub-7-minute lap. Yes, it is a much more expensive vehicle but it also has a much smaller naturally aspirated flat-6. For it to be over 30 seconds quicker is remarkable.

      How about some Chevrolet context?

Officially tested by Chevrolet, a C6 Corvette ZR1 with its 638 horsepower LS9 V8 managed a 7:19.63, while German auto magazine Sport Auto managed to fire off a lap time of 7:13.90 with a C7 Z06. Just as well, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE clocked an absurd 7:16.04 with a factory driver.
If this C8 time is illegitimate we will take the site reporting it to task. For now, take it with a grain of salt.

I bet this lap time is legit, because the C8 is only marginally faster around certain tracks than the C7 Z51. This would be a very similar (marginal) improvement over the unofficial C7 Z51 'ring lap. It will need stickier tires and a ton more power to beat the C7 Z06.

That’s not so bad for the base car. It’s just as quick as an SLS Black Series around the Ring.

It’s an excellent time by itself actually.

A pity the C8 won’t be offered in Europe for the time being.

Mid engine rwd doesn't need much power to do well
