    • It's fat - The 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 curb weight comes in at 4225 pounds, 56.2% weight up front

We knew the supercharger, cooling, and dual clutch transmission would add significant weight to the Mustang chassis. We just did not think it would be this fat. At 4225 pounds it is roughly 500 pounds heavier than the Shelby GT350R.

It makes you wonder if the GT500 will be much of a track car. It also makes you wonder why Ford does not give the GT350 the dual clutch transmission which would improve its performance considerably on its own and offer a much lighter (and cheaper) alternative to the GT500.

It is going to be fast but wow is that a fat Mustang.

Fat as fuuuuck. No way this thing handles anywhere close to even a Camaro ZL1 1LE

Big girls can be fun to ride.

I love this thing but honestly would rather have the C8.

About 400 pounds heavier than the Camaro ZL1 1LE. Unless Ford is sandbagging the horsepower and torque rating on this car, my money is on the Camaro to be quicker on a track (road course).

        That's pretty insane actually. It's barely 100# lighter than our F90 M5.

They screwed up on the weight, and weight distribution. What is in this Mustang GT500 that makes it weigh so much? Too bad GM (Chevy) can’t take advantage of this deficiency in an over-weight Mustang. I am not sexist but you’ve got a woman (Mary Barra) running GM who doesn’t care about the rivalry between the Mustang and Camaro. They need to put a car guy / gal in charge! Car guys working at GM are probably licking their chops after they found out that the Mustang GT500 became a hippo at 4,225 pounds! They’ve already got the Camaro ZL1 1LE that is 400 pounds lighter, has a more favorable weight distribution (54% / 46%), is “punching above its class” and beating cars that cost three times more on the track. They’ve already got the engine, drivetrain, and transmission in the parts bin from the Corvette ZR1. No Research and Development needed. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (ZR1). Raid the parts bin and put these items in an updated Camaro. GM can call it the Z28, the ZL1 1LE Plus, or the ZL1 ACR – who cares! This car would bring down the thunder and absolutely destroy this fat Mustang on the strip, road course, or any given road. Period. It wouldn’t even be close.

Weight is definitely the enemy of performance, but I’m not ready to write the GT500 off yet. DCT will help a ton. It’s likely underrated on HP. I bet this thing still sets some super impressive numbers. With all that said, sure wish it was below 4000lbs :/

You're right. It would be a hell of a response and not that hard to do but they won't do it...

Well it depends on options and gas Click here to enlarge

So these two are uncomfortably close.
